Why Zurgena and La Alfoquia?
Zurgena is a small town situated in the Almeria province, approximately 248m above sea level and approximately 12km from Albox. Zurgena has a town hall, post office, supermarkets/ general stores, several bars, a butchers and a hardware store. There is a school for children of up to 12 years and the nearest secondary school is in Alfoquia, only 1km away. Zurgena has a medical centre and a chemist with an English speaking pharmacist. The nearest major hospital is in Huercal Overa approximately 13km away. The municipal swimming pool is situated in nearby Alfoquia.
Where to Move: Some people prefer to live in the purpose built villa community which you can find near the Alfoquia Bowling club for walking distance to the services and amenties. An alternative option is just outside both towns where detached houses are with slightly larger gardens with private swimming pools. If you prefer the more “Pueblo” style then look at the center or Zurgena.
The Cost: “Really anywhere in Spain so it is a lifestyle choice, a single could live comfortably on €1,200 — or less. A couple can live for around €2,000 a month. Eating out at Restaurants is inexpensive as are childcare, groceries transportation and sport and leisure club membership/activities.
Zurgena is a municipality of Almería province. It has a population of approx 2.893 people. La Alfoquia has a population of approx 1342 people.

In Zurgena, there is a local swimming pool (Piscina Zurgena), three banks (Cajamar, Unicaja and Santander), two local pharmacies (Farmacia Zurgena and Luisa Micaela Belzunces Mena) and two churches (church of the Assumption and Iglesia de Santiago), Cajamar Caja Rural a small park, a gym, a municipal pool and a “Pabellón”. There is also a fishmonger (Pescadería El Palomico).
While in La Alfoquia there are two Taxi Services, a Bus Station, a butcher, an Argentinian Baker, a Cajamar, an electro-domestic shop, children's clothing store named Vainilla y Chocolate, a Maphre, a hairdresser (Opulence Hairdresser), veterinary and the Alfoquia Bowling Club.

In La Alfoquia you can find bars like Bar la Piscina de La Alfoquia, Union Bar, Campsa, Sangre Española, Corner Bar, Trinidad, Bar La Tapa and Café Bar la Almeri.

In La Alfoquia they have different options for food like Indian (Tandoori Restaurant), Chiringuito El Recreo, Gondola Pizza, The Heather´s Restaurant, Café Bar la Almeri and Bar Cielos.

So what’s the big draw?
The two villages are connected by a bridge of approx 800 metres,making it easy to walk between the them. In Zurgena is that it's a small town where the locals are extremely friendly, offering great bars and in La Alfoquia with its beautiful church and station house.
La Alfoquia:
Another pretty market town a few minutes drive from Arboleas, This very popular community offers a number of large, well priced contemporary homes with an easy walk to the town center.
Cucador: One of the most popular residencial parts of Zurgena, covers a very large area with stunning homes many of which have large plots and stunning views.
What do people love about it?
What people love about these two small towns is that it's very calm with a nice atmosphere where everyone knows everyone.

The best places to get a drink would be in Bar Corner and Sangre Española which are located in La Alfoquia.

Schools and supermarkets?
There are two schools in La Alfoquia: Escuela Infantil Chicos (infant school) and Colegio Público La Alfoquia (primary school). Both are public schools.
There is only one public primary school in Zurgena called Colegio Público Juan Andrés de Toledo.
As for supermarkets, we have a Coviran, two Butchers and a small supermarket (María Ángeles Carrillo Berbel) in La Alfoquia and a Mediterráneo Supermercados in Zurgena.

Zurgena lies in the lower basin of the Rio Almanzora and relies mainly on agriculture and tourism Torre del Reloj mirador in Zurgena for its economy, the river bed divides the old hilltop village from its neighbouring counterpart La Alfoquia.
The best views of both pueblos can be seen from the Zurgena mirador, Torre del Reloj, a clock tower built on the highest hilltop of Zurgena village which is signposted from the plaza. Zurgena mudejar style church. The short, steep, yet atmospheric walk up to the viewing point, winds its way through the whitewashed houses and passes the stunning Mudejar style Iglesia de San Ramon parish church.
