Macenas Golf and Beach, Mojacar Playa, Almería
To find the Macenas Beach and protected beaches on Mojácar Playa; The landmarks would include Torre del Perulico on the cliff edge and the ancient defence tower Castillo de Macenas., Macenas Beach owes its name to the tower, which was built during the reign of Carlos III as a generic project in 1765 for a major waterfront area of Almeria.
Construction in this area is limited as sound environmental protection measures have been used, taking into consideration from the fact that the neighboring Cabo de Gata Natural Park was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1997.
All building works were carefully supervised to ensure that environmental best practices are complied with. Amongst its environmental protection measures, Playa Macenas Beach & Golf Resort has its own waste water treatment plant that will treat all the waste water produced by the resort. The plant features the latest bio membrane technology, producing recycled water ideal for watering the golf course and green areas.
The course is currently closed and will reopen in the future with a date not yet specified. Marina Golf was an 18-hole, par 71, course is split into two section of 9 holes each. It was designed by Ramón Espinosa, whose philosophy was to combine the flat areas with the most mountainous lands in a relatively small space -5.231 metres long- that is ideally suited for a golf course of this type.
This 18-holes at Playa Macenas golf course requires the utmost concentration. Good shot-making will be rewarded but challenging greens, numerous bunkers, grassy mounds, two lakes, strategically located copses and newly planted shrubs lie in wait to punish wayward shots. Each hole has its own particular features and challenges, with varying levels of difficulty. Holes have been designed to offer an extremely varied range of shots and playing strategies, as well as views across the course and beautiful surroundings. Varied teeing positions and large greens with a variety of pin positions mean that the length and difficulty of the round can be adapted and varied each day. It is the perfect place to play golf near the sea, with stunning views along its layout.
